Oh yes! Camp NaNoWriMo for July is nearly here! I have decided to give it another go. This Camp I have decided to try my hand at humour again – Heard Down At The Mill – it will be a collection of funny things I have heard while at work.
I am a little nervous about writing it; but I know that it will give me something exciting to think about when I am at work.
i already have a few already jotted down and are waiting to be written out properly and correctly. Knowing me, I will probably change my mind by the start date – July 1st
A few days ago, I completed “Narrowboat Dreams” – yippie! Another book done and dusted!
As for Camp NaNoWriMo, I have decided NOT to take part this time around. I want to get myself all prepped and ready to go in November; which will arrive quicker than we all think it will.
It is not long until I am away on my holiday and I will be able to read to my hearts content! I will be taking my Kindle (yes, I know it is not a good word being a BookCrosser and all!) as I cannot carry five books with me. I will be taking a couple of BookCrossing books to release while I am away!
The closer I get to my holiday, the more excited I am becoming! JamCon here I come!
Should I or should I not do Camp NaNoWriMo this coming July? I will be away for the last three days of Camp (I will have access to the internet and I will be able to upload my novel at the end). However; I will be working every hour I can get my hands on working – both at The Brewery and with Jamberry to get as much cash as possible. This is due to adding an extra event on to my American trip…
I wasn’t going to originally; but I was persuaded by the rest of the girls in my team and being in the USA anyway, I thought that I could not miss the chance! I have been lucky that one of my team, can no longer go and has transferred her ticket to me – which I am very grateful! I think that I will give her some of the Swag I received as a thank you! I am sharing a room with four other members of my team.
However, there is a little, tiny, wincey problem – 33 and half hours on a bus (there and back)! JamCon is in Orlando, Florida, which is on the opposite end of the country to where I am staying – Buffalo, NY. I think that this will be a fantastic opportunity for me to see more of America and cross off some more of my “52 States Challenge”; which is currently ranking at five States visited!
I know that writing for Camp, will keep me focused and relaxed. I will be able to write on the bus down to Heathrow and on the plane; should I do Camp? I know that I will be doing a lot more reading over the holiday; as I am going to push on my books for my GoodReads Reading Challenge. I have 7 chapters left of “Narrowboat Dreams” to read and then that one can be “shelved”!
Let me know your thoughts…
Yesterday I finished “A Street Cat called Bob” by James Bowen. It was amazing and I was reading it as a part of my Goodreads Reading Challenge 2016. It was book three out of 24. I was trying to read one ‘Fiction’ and one ‘Non-Fiction’ book a month. I have currently only read two ‘Fiction’ and one ‘Non-Fiction’ (see my Reading Challenges page for a full list). I am a MASSIVE cat lover; there are two within this household and another which lives with my brother. I knew within the first few lines I was going to love this book. I cannot believe that there is another five books afterwards. I will need to add them to my Bookcrossing Wish List. I received this book as part of a BookRay (or BookRing) through Bookcrossing – I am waiting to hear back from the next participant for their address so I can send it on to them. However; I have signed up for the second book. I can’t wait for it to arrive.
As for Camp NaNoWriMo; it has been very good. I am currently half way into my 20,000 word goal. I do have some editing to do as I have nearly finished a chapter. I am aiming to write at least two chapters over this ‘Camp’. I have been sticking to my daily word goal, which is under 700 words. However, as you can see I have been writing a little more than that. I wonder when it comes to November I can keep the flow and write more of the novel. I have also been looking into getting it published; but I am a little nervous about sending it off. I don’t even know which Publishing houses to send it to. I will need to do some more research on that.
Another exciting piece of news is that I had an interview with Fun Languages Viseu in Portugal about a teaching job out there (see “Some Job News” at My TEFL Adventures for more info) and I am now an official Jamberry Nails Consultant. You may have seen the image appear upon the sidebar of the blog. It is very exciting. I am one of the first people to have this opportunity here in the UK; I hope that you all have a look at my website; just click the image and it will send you to my site. I may not be a ‘girly girl’ but the Jamberry nail wraps are amazing. I have never seen anything like them ever. I was introduced to them by my long-time friend, Amy, who I have known since 1999. She was in the Girl Scouts (the same area that I am going to camp with this summer) and she was my Host for the camp. She is a ‘sister from another mumma’! I am going to see her too this summer, can’t wait! Jamicures will be taking place when I am there for sure! Here are some examples of the wraps; theyr are cute right?
I cannot believe that the Easter Holidays are almost at their end; I have a Training Day on the 11th (which I am not looking forward to!) and knowing me I will be writing some of my novel when I am there – I did that the Training Day we had in September last year. I have not received anything about the day other than the times; which I had to ask for. Oh well! I can just keep writing, can’t I.
Last night I watched “The Maze Runner”; have any of you seen the film or read the book? I have added all of The Maze Runner series to my Book Shopping Wish List; I swear it gets bigger every month! I found the idea of the story rather clever and I am looking forward to seeing the next two films.
Today is April 1st and Camp NaNoWriMo has officially begun. I have set myself a 20,000 word goal; which means I have to write 667 words a day to reach my goal. This year’s Camp NaNo I am focusing on Chapters 4 and 5 of my NaNoWriMo 2011 novel “No Voice?!”.
Here is today’s stats:
As you can see I am already ahead – first time in a long time I am actually ahead of my daily goal! I am hoping that I can keep this up!
On Instagram I have also signed up to do the #AprilCampWritingChallenge organised by clever Kate Stark (IG:@kates_little_sweet_things)
To see my daily posts, please check out my IG account @JemmaJH.
To reward myself of reaching my daily goal; I decided that I would do some Cross Stitching. I have recently signed up for the Concern Worldwide – #StitchForSyria programme and I decided that it time that I start Shannon’s (Bad Ass Cross Stitch) #YearOfStitch; which she did last year on Instagram. Her account being @baddasscrossstitch – again see my Instagram account for more details on my progress.
In four more days, I will be announcing some exciting news…keep your eyes peeled for more details!
This is how I am currently feeling about 2016! Camp NaNoWriMo starts in less than a week and I have only just signed up for it. I am going to try and get chapters four and five finished. So, I’m aiming at 50,000 words again! Crazy I know; but the first 11 days of April I will on my Easter Holidays from work. I am pretty excited about it! I will have to set myself a time limit and timetable on when and where I can actually write.
I have been “requested” to come into work to assist with some students with their “interventions” and I know that they children will not need me all the time; so my laptop will be coming with me and I will try and write! Some of the students are the inspiration for my entry this year. ‘No Voice?!’ is a Young Adult novel that I started in 2011 in the November edition of NaNoWriMo. I want to publish this novel as I feel that it is time for the world to read my work. Who could I publish with? I will have to do a J.K. Rowling and apply to loads of Publishing houses. If you have any ideas; please feel free to let me know.
On the GoodReads front; I am VERY behind! I am still reading a book I was supposed to finish in January. The Personal Development said of the books are a little thin; I will need to find some more to add to the TBR pile! My novel TRB pile is MASSIVE and I know that it will be easy to pick my next book!
Some of you may know that I am a member of Girlguiding UK and after the age of 26 you can no longer to any badges – I love badges! Just look at this image of my blankets and myself this Thinking Day (22nd February).
I do have a lot of badges left to sew on. I think a new blanket is in order…but when?! Anyway; there is a website called Best of Guiding UK; which I am a member of and they let us “oldies” do badges! I am currently doing some “BOGUK Badges” – I am excited to keep you posted with them.
